An incredible 18th century commissioning document and map grouping to Moritz von Reitzenstein. This incredibly historic grouping was recently acquired from the family in Germany. The meat of the grouping is a commissioning document to Moritz von Reitzenstein bestowing upon him the rank of Capitaine Lieutenant for the forces of Waldeck Pyrmont. It is dated 10th of August, 1794 in Breda, Holland. The 19×15 inch framed document has been dry mounted and ready to hang on your wall. Included with the commissioning document is a framed 1733 Holman Heirs map of the kingdom of Waldeck. It was printed in Nürnberg. It shows slight signs of fading and having been folded. Measuring 28.5×25 inches. It is itself a beauty. The third document is a framed manuscript map from 1824 showing the town of Arolsen where the above officer received his land grant for services rendered. It is quite possible that von Reitzenstein served in North America for the British forces as a mercenary against the Americans. Waldeck provided many troops for the British in the American Revolutionary War. Many Waldeckers would eventually settle in Nova Scotia after the War. Interestingly through doing research I found that one of the descendants of this officer earned a Knights Cross during the 2nd War. A fascinating and unique 18th century grouping representing a very tumultuous period of history, with possible links to the American Revolutionary War. All framed and ready to grace the walls of your office or war room.
