The Seitengewehr 71/84 was a short lived bayonet produced for the 71/84 rifle. This specimen was produced by Alex Coppell of Solingen. It bears the crown and "L" for Ludwig of Bavaria and the date of manufacture of 1887. Both the scabbard and bayonet are regimentally marked: B 11 R 10.125 for the 11th Regiment of infantry. The scabbard is the original leather version. Although there is some pitting overall, this specimen is untouched and original. A scarcer shirt lived bayonet.
