Imperial German Sailor’s Naval Silk Picture

One of the most beautiful objects I have handled. This 42 x 27 inch silk hand sewn picture is extremely visually appealing. It is a commemorative piece marking the service of a naval artillery sailor, Jakob Heinrich, in Tsingtau, China from 1906 to 1909. It is in its original frame and glass. It is in extremely well preserved condition. On the rare occasion of finding one of these, they are often tattered. This one is pristine, probably due to the fact that it has stayed inside its original frame. I believe this was most likely done in China in the period. A picture of Heinrich and his ship have been worked into the picture and are surrounded by cord matching the colors of the Imperial German flag. Included are additional pictures from Heinrichs service and his pay book from the pre war period. A stunning accent piece for any collectors room or office.
