Very unique and scarce pewter tankard with the insignia of the Royal Sappers and Miners. Changed to the Royal Engineers in 1856. Below the insignia is etched T.G.S.C. I am unsure what this refers to. Possibly the initials of a previous owner? All the engraving is etched as it should be. The crown is Georgian, so pre 1837. The bottom is a thick glass. A very simple design to the tankard. This is the only specimen I have ever seen. This tankard was sourced many years ago in Ottawa. Quite possibly could have belonged to one of the 130 plus members that worked on the Rideau Canal system.
