George 6th memorial cross named to F.O. R.J. Ayles J-7775.Flying Officer Ayles was KIA October 1st, 1942, aged 33. He served with #405 City of Vancouver Squadron. He was on a mission to Flensburg when he lost his life. At that point the squadron was flying Halifax bombers. He was from Newton, New Brunswick. Interestingly the broach has been replaced with a jewler made bow. Marked Birks sterling on the reverse of the cross.
