Interesting piece of German history. An approximately 1.5 inch medallion made of iron that was given to family's that exchanged their gold for iron to help the war effort during the First World War. One side shows a picture of a woman handing over her jewelry and the inscription: The Iron Time 1916. On the reverse is the inscription in German, I gave Gold as a defense, I took Iron as Honour. There is a maker mark on the medallion, Hosaeus. Excellent overall condition.
